Seven people die in suicide bomb attack near Somalia’s presidential villa


A suicide car bomb exploded near the presidential palace in the Somali capital Mogadishu on Saturday and has claimed at least seven lives.


District police “chief Mucawiye Ahmed Mudey” told press that at least eight others got injured, In a short statement, the Islamist militant group Al-Shabab has claimed responsibility for the attack.


A witness of the sad event told AFP that the bomb exploded when police stopped the driver to carry out a security check.



“They normally stop to check and clear vehicles before they can pass by the checkpoint. This car was stopped by the security agents and it went off while there were many other cars and people passing by the nearby road. I saw injured and dead people being carried,” Mohamed Hassan told the news agency.


The attack targeted a busy checkpoint near the presidential palace. Some eyewitnesses told the BBC NEWS  that seven cars and three auto-rickshaws were destroyed.


The bomb blast comes just hours after a suicide bomber detonated an explosive close to Somali military headquarters in the capital, but no casualties were recorded.


However, Many citizens of the country have criticised Somalian politicians for the country’s bastardized security situation, adding that they are distracted by a much-delayed election process and a mounting dispute between the president and the prime minister.


“Al-Shabab”, which means “The Youth in Arabic”, is an unmerciful Islamist group which has been battling UN-backed government troops for more than a decade now.


The jihadists group were once the ruler of  capital Mogadishu, until when “African Union Troops” forcedly push them out in year 2011. But it still control territory in the countryside and use to launches frequent attacks against the government and civilian based in Mogadishu and elsewhere.


The jihadist group, advocates the strict Saudi-inspired Wahhabi version of Islam, while most Somalians are Sufis. The group has establish a tough version of Sharia laws in areas under its beneath, including the law of stoning a women to death accused of adultery and cutting the hands of thieves.


Government dignitaries have blamed the jihadist group for some of Somalia’s deadliest terror attacks. From Last year analysis at the “Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project”, estimated that the jihadist group “Al-Shabab” had been responsible for the deaths of over 4,000 people since 2010.
